Vienna
Vienna is a beautiful city. Vienna is also a very modern city. And a city full of chaos. My number one tip for visiting Vienna is to look all twelve ways before taking a step anywhere. Cars, buses and scooters fill the streets. Trams are everywhere, sometimes going against the vehicle traffic on a one way street. And then add in all the bikes, with a complex network of bike paths that go all over the sidewalks. People are drinking on the streets and plazas, with DJ’s blasting music everywhere. And every once in a while a parade of bikes and rollerblades will cruise down the street, taking over major intersections, and preventing anyone from crossing the street. Which is a great time to check out the awesome vegan food festival that happens to be on the side of the street where you are.
I hope that doesn’t sound like me complaining. Other than the occasionally infuriating traffic pattern, that seem to be popular around Europe, I had a great time wandering the streets of Vienna. It’s a lively city with so much to see and do.
I had a tough time at first figuring out how to approach taking photos in Vienna. Vienna is very flat, making it difficult to get above the city for composing big cityscape type shots. The architecture throughout the city is amazing, and with so much going on in the streets I deciding to focus in on smaller scenes.
But wherever I could find some vertical diversity I made sure to take advantage of the vantage points!
Vienna is very proud of its musical past. They peddle Mozart tickets on the streets like comedy tickets in New York. If I wasn’t running around like a maniac right around sunset taking photos I definitely would have caught a Mozart concert. The tickets seemed affordable, not sure about the drink minimum though.
I had an amazing time in Vienna. There is so much to do, and so much to photograph! I hope to make it back someday.
