Prague
On my recent trip to Europe I got to spend two days in a Prague. When I was originally planning my trip I had no plans to go to Prague, but I ended up finding a good deal on a flight there so I decided it would be a good place to start my journey. My favorite thing about Prague was how old the city feels. So many of the buildings in the old town area have survived for hundreds of years. You feel like you’re walking around in the middle ages with cobble stone streets and old historic buildings at every turn. Of course Prague is a modern European city, but they seem to be making a conscious effort to have the more modern constructions blend into the style of the old city.
My other favorite thing about Prague was the trdelník filled with ice cream. A trdelník is basically a cone shaped doughnut that is cooked over an open flame. I found these tasty pastries in other cities as well, but in Prague they were everywhere and they were delicious. Too bad I don’t take pictures of my food, but these were definitely a highlight for me.
Photographing Prague was a lot of fun. It’s a very walkable city with a beautiful river running right through the middle. And there are parks just outside the city center where you can gain some elevation so that you can look right down to the river and get some amazing cityscape compositions.
The red roofs with the blue water, the abundant greenery and bright colored buildings bring the photos to life an exciting palette of colors.
And there are old churches and towers everywhere adding plenty of variation to the skyline.
And at night the city lights up and really comes alive!
There are tons of people on the streets making it great place for street photography too! Even Prague has McDonalds. Thank you USA for your contribution to European cuisine.
I really had a great time in Prague. Another day there would have been great, but two days was a good amount of time to get a feel for the city. Add in a couple of day trips and one could easily spend 5-7 days in the city. And for beer drinkers there are endless places to spend your evenings throwing back some pints. (or half liters?) And make sure to grab some goulash while your at it. You can even get some vegan goulash made with seitan!
Next up Vienna!
